Bihar Teachers Get Final Chance to Clear Competency Test and Become State Employees

For thousands of appointed teachers in Bihar’s local bodies, this New Year is critical. Nearly 82,000 teacher candidates in the state, who have not yet attained state government employee status, will get their last opportunity this year to qualify for it.

This final chance is for those teachers who have either failed to clear the competency test in the previous four attempts or were unable to appear for the exam for some reason. After this opportunity, the future of those who do not succeed will remain uncertain.

As per the education department’s instructions, the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) will conduct the fifth competency test. This exam is scheduled to be held either at the end of this month or in February.

The exam will include two categories of teacher candidates. The first group consists of 52,961 teachers who failed in the earlier four exams. The second group includes approximately 30,000 appointed teachers who could not participate in any of these four exams for various reasons. Overall, more than 82,000 candidates will get this final chance to secure permanent employment.

According to Bihar Board data, the number of teachers who failed in each competency test was as follows: 11,209 in the first, 15,205 in the second, 16,543 in the third, and 10,004 in the fourth.

Questions in the fifth competency test will be based on the syllabus prescribed for BPSC Teacher Recruitment Exams 1, 2, and 3. For teachers of classes 1 to 5, the exam will include 30 questions on language subjects, 40 on general studies, and 80 on general subjects.

For primary physical education teachers, questions will be divided into 30 on language, 40 on general studies, and 80 on physical education. Similarly, teachers of classes 6-8, 9-10, and 11-12 will face questions on language, general studies, and their specific subjects, with the marks distribution being 30, 40, and 80 respectively.
