Woman Killed in Wall Collapse After Rainfall in Bengaluru
The city recorded over 110 mm of rainfall, triggering severe waterlogging in low-lying areas. The Mahadevapura locality witnessed a tragic incident as a 35-year-old woman died after a wall collapsed on her. Rescue personnel confirmed that the wall’s foundation weakened due to prolonged heavy rainfall.
Emergency teams were dispatched to several inundated zones to rescue stranded residents and commuters. The IMD has warned that wind speeds may reach 50–60 kmph, with rain likely to persist throughout the week.
Rajasthan Swelters, IPL Fans Retreat Due to Heat
While southern India is grappling with rain-related disruption, Rajasthan continues to battle scorching heat. In Jaipur, spectators at the SMS Stadium attending an IPL match reportedly left early due to oppressive heat conditions. The IMD has forecast similar weather for the state today as well, with no immediate relief in sight.
In Madhya Pradesh, a heatwave alert has been issued across several districts, adding to the list of extreme weather zones across India this week.
Thunderstorms Claim Lives in Bihar and Kashmir
Extreme weather claimed eight lives across Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday. In Bihar, five people were killed by lightning strikes, and one woman died after a tree fell on her during a thunderstorm. Meanwhile, in the Shopian district of Kashmir, a father-daughter duo perished when a tree collapsed on them during intense gusts and rain.
Widespread Weather Alerts Across India
The IMD has issued thunderstorm and rainfall warnings for at least 14 states, including Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. In Himachal and Uttarakhand, there is potential for hailstorms alongside heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, dust storms and heatwave conditions have been forecasted for parts of western Rajasthan, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay indoors and hydrated.
As climate volatility grips large swathes of India, both urban preparedness and citizen awareness remain crucial in mitigating loss of life and property. Authorities are closely monitoring developments and have urged caution in affected regions.
