New Delhi, May 27 (Udaipur Kiran) – Confusion continues among bank customers regarding the Bakrid or Eid-ul-Adha holiday in 2026, as different states have announced holidays on different dates due to moon sighting and separate government notifications.

Central Government Declares Holiday on May 28
The Central Government has revised the Eid-ul-Adha holiday date for central administrative offices in Delhi. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Personnel on May 22, all central government offices in Delhi will remain closed on May 28, 2026, instead of May 27.
Will Banks Remain Closed on May 27 or 28?
Bank holidays for Bakrid are not uniform across the country. The holiday schedule depends on moon sighting, local government notifications and regional traditions. As a result, banks in some states will remain closed on May 27, while others will observe the holiday on May 28.
Banks Closed in Jammu and Srinagar on May 27
According to the holiday calendar issued by Reserve Bank of India, banks in Jammu and Srinagar will remain closed on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, on account of Bakrid.
The holiday will apply to commercial banks, cooperative banks, regional rural banks, small finance banks and local area banks.
Kerala Announces Two-Day Holiday
The Kerala Government has announced a two-day public holiday for Bakrid. As per the notification issued by the General Administration Department on May 24, all government offices, educational institutions and public sector undertakings in the state will remain closed on May 27 and May 28.
The order will also apply to institutions covered under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Banking Services to Continue Online
Customers do not need to worry about digital banking services during the holiday period.
RTGS and NEFT services will continue to function 24×7, as these services remain operational every day, including holidays.
Online banking facilities such as UPI payments, mobile banking, internet banking, fund transfers, online loan applications and cheque book requests will also remain available without interruption.
