Assam Police Seize Drugs Worth ₹21.36 Crore, Five Arrested

Guwahati, May 15: Assam police have seized drugs worth approximately ₹21.36 crore in a significant anti-narcotics operation, arresting five individuals in Kamrup district. Officials disclosed details of the operation on Thursday.

The joint action was carried out by Kamrup police and the Assam Special Task Force based on specific intelligence.

According to police, a bus arriving from a neighboring state was intercepted in the outskirts of Guwahati at Amingaon during the operation.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed 2.5 kilograms of heroin and 8 kilograms of opium hidden inside.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news of this operation on the social media platform ‘X’, commending the police teams involved. He stated, “A large quantity of narcotics has been seized in Assam. In a joint operation by Kamrup police and STF, drugs worth ₹21.36 crore were recovered. A bus coming from a neighboring state was stopped in Amingaon, where 2.5 kg of heroin and 8 kg of opium were found. Five individuals have been arrested.”

Police sources indicated that the arrested individuals are being interrogated to determine the origin and destination of the drugs, as well as to investigate their connections to an interstate smuggling network.

Authorities suspect that these drugs may be part of a larger trafficking network operating in the northeastern region.

This seizure is part of the Assam government’s ‘Assam Against Drugs’ initiative, which has been launched by the state administration.

In recent years, Assam police and other agencies have conducted several operations against drug traffickers and gangs in the state.

Senior police officials stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further arrests may follow.
