After Railway Employees, India Post Staff to Receive Bonus Equivalent to 60 Days’ Wages

New Delhi, October 17, 2026: In a festive-season benefit for government employees, the Department of Posts has approved a bonus equivalent to 60 days’ wages for eligible employees for the financial year 2025-26.

According to the department’s order, eligible regular employees will receive a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB). Regularly working Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) will receive an ex-gratia bonus, while eligible full-time casual employees will be covered under an ad hoc bonus scheme.

The bonus amount will depend on the employee category, the prescribed wage ceiling and the number of days worked during the relevant period.

Which India Post Employees Are Eligible for the Bonus?

The bonus covers three categories of employees under the department’s order.

1. Regular employees: Eligible employees include Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C employees and non-gazetted Group B employees.

2. Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS): Regularly working GDS employees will receive an ex-gratia bonus, subject to the applicable conditions.

3. Casual employees: Eligible full-time casual labourers and casual employees with temporary status will receive an ad hoc bonus, provided they meet the prescribed eligibility requirements.

How Will the 60-Day Bonus Be Calculated?

For eligible regular postal employees, the bonus will be calculated on the basis of 60 days’ wages. The formula specified in the report is to multiply the average monthly emoluments by the number of bonus days and divide the result by 30.4.

The maximum monthly emoluments considered for the calculation are capped at ₹7,000. This means that even if an employee’s eligible monthly salary exceeds ₹7,000, the bonus calculation will be based on the prescribed ceiling.

The same wage ceiling and calculation method apply to Gramin Dak Sevaks, according to the report.

Eligibility Conditions for Casual Employees

Full-time casual employees will be eligible for an ad hoc bonus subject to the prescribed conditions. One of the requirements is that they must have worked for the specified number of days for at least three consecutive years up to March 31, 2026.

Employees who resigned, retired, left service or went on deputation between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, may also qualify for the bonus under the rules applicable to regular employees, subject to the relevant eligibility conditions.

Railway Employees to Receive a 78-Day Bonus

The government has also announced a Productivity Linked Bonus equivalent to 78 days’ wages for 1.14 million railway employees.

An amount of ₹2,009.61 crore has been allocated for the railway bonus. The maximum bonus payable to an eligible railway employee for 78 days has been fixed at ₹17,951.

Eligible railway employees include track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers (formerly known as guards), station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, pointsmen, ministry staff and other Group C employees.

The railway productivity-linked bonus is an annual benefit provided to eligible employees.
