Melbourne, (Udaipur Kiran) — India’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma has surpassed Virat Kohli to become the highest run-scorer for India after the first 25 T20 International innings. The young left-hander achieved this milestone during the second T20 match against Australia, where he played a gritty knock of 68 runs, anchoring India’s innings despite continuous fall of wickets.

With this, Abhishek now holds the record for scoring 936 runs in 25 innings, leaving behind some of India’s biggest batting names. Virat Kohli had scored 906 runs in his first 25 T20I innings, while KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav followed with 899 and 805 runs, respectively. Tilak Varma had managed 780 runs in the same span.
Abhishek’s consistency and attacking intent have made him one of India’s most dangerous T20 batters in recent times. His fearless approach at the top order continues to worry opponents. Despite India losing the match, his innings ensured India posted a respectable total on the board.
So far, Abhishek has featured in 26 matches, scoring 936 runs with two centuries and six half-centuries to his name — a remarkable start to his international T20 career.
Praising his performance, Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav said, “He has been doing this for quite some time now. He understands his game and identity very well, and it’s good that he is not trying to change that. Hopefully, he will continue to play many more such innings for us.”
