31 May 2025, New Delhi — In a landmark move aimed at revolutionizing early childhood development, Vedanta’s flagship CSR initiative, Nand Ghar, has announced a strategic collaboration with John Snow Inc. (JSI) R&T India Foundation and Rocket Learning under the ambitious Project Balvardhan. This partnership marks a pivotal step in reshaping Anganwadi centres in Rajasthan’s Dholpur district into modern, digitally empowered hubs for learning, nutrition, and community well-being.

Reimagining Anganwadis for the 21st Century
Through Nand Ghar, Vedanta is transforming traditional Anganwadis into state-of-the-art early childhood centers featuring smart learning tools, LED TVs, BaLA (Building as Learning Aid) designs, and child-friendly infrastructure. The centers will also deliver fortified meals, maternal and child healthcare services, and livelihood support through women’s skill-building programs.
At the heart of this mission lies Project Balvardhan, launched by the Anil Agarwal Foundation, with a strong emphasis on combating malnutrition and enhancing the capabilities of Anganwadi workers. According to NFHS-5 data, 31.8% of children under 5 in Rajasthan are stunted, and 16.8% are wasted. Project Balvardhan aims to address this alarming issue through a holistic 360-degree systems-based approach.
Impact at Scale
The initiative will upgrade over 800 Anganwadi centers into Nand Ghars across Dholpur, positively impacting more than 80,000 children, 14,000 women, and over 1 lakh rural community members. With a focus on early childhood care and education (ECCE), behavioral change communication, and supplementary nutrition in alignment with ICDS Rajasthan guidelines, the project is designed for long-term sustainability and scalable impact.
Strategic Roles of Partners
Speaking on the collaboration, Shashi Arora, CEO of Nand Ghar, said,
“At Nand Ghar, we believe that real change begins at the grassroots. Project Balvardhan is a significant step towards our efforts to combat malnutrition among children and empower Anganwadi workers. Together with the Government of Rajasthan, JSI, and Rocket Learning, we are committed to building a secure and healthy future for our next generation.”
Under this partnership:
-
JSI will lead interventions to enhance maternal and child health, deploying solutions such as digital anthropometry for growth tracking, maternal nutrition awareness campaigns, and infrastructure upgrades.
-
Rocket Learning will focus on strengthening early learning outcomes through the development of interactive state-aligned content, modern teaching techniques, and capacity building for Anganwadi workers (Nand Ghar Didis) to boost child engagement and learning outcomes.
Government Support and Vision
The initiative has received the blessings of Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Women & Child Development, Smt. Diya Kumari ji, further solidifying government commitment to child welfare and rural development.
By uniting JSI’s global health expertise and Rocket Learning’s education innovation, and aligning closely with ICDS Rajasthan, Project Balvardhan is set to usher in a transformative new era for rural Anganwadis. This integrated, systems-level approach aims to inspire holistic development and build resilient communities—driven by partnerships, powered by purpose, and rooted in impact.
