In a move set to revolutionize rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, the Vande Bharat Express is poised to commence operations soon. The train, known for its cutting-edge technology and high-speed capabilities, will cover the Katra-Srinagar route in just 3 hours and 10 minutes, offering a game-changing experience for travelers.

New Timetable Announced
The Indian Railways has officially shared the schedule for the much-anticipated Vande Bharat Express. According to the timetable:
- Departure from Katra: 8:10 AM
- Arrival in Srinagar: 11:20 AM
- Return from Srinagar: 12:45 PM
- Arrival at Katra: 3:55 PM
In addition to the Vande Bharat Express, two other mail and express trains will also ply this route, taking approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes. This increased connectivity will significantly reduce travel time and enhance convenience for passengers.
Trains Built to Withstand Harsh Conditions
Given the unique weather conditions of the Kashmir Valley, Indian Railways has made special modifications to the Vande Bharat Express and five other AC trains scheduled to operate on this route. These changes are aimed at ensuring smooth operations during harsh winters, snowfall, and sub-zero temperatures. Presently, six trains, including one with a vistadome coach, are already running in the valley.
Foundation Stone for Jammu Rail Division
To further boost connectivity, Indian Railways has announced the establishment of the Jammu Rail Division. This new division aims to strengthen rail links between Kashmir and southern parts of India, including Kanyakumari. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually lay the foundation stone for the project on Monday, January 6. Once completed, the Jammu Rail Division will reduce the dependency of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Pathankot regions on the Ferozepur division.
Delhi-Srinagar Direct Train Still in Pipeline
While the Vande Bharat Express will initially operate between Katra and Srinagar, there is still no clarity on when direct services from Delhi to Srinagar will begin. However, the launch of the Katra-Srinagar route marks a significant step toward this goal.
A New Era of Rail Travel
This new service is expected to greatly benefit tourists, devotees visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, and residents of the region. By slashing travel time and improving comfort, Indian Railways is taking a giant leap toward transforming transportation in Jammu and Kashmir.
With enhanced facilities and better connectivity, the Vande Bharat Express promises not only a faster journey but also a more comfortable and scenic experience through the picturesque Kashmir Valley.
Stay tuned for further updates as the Indian Railways continues to improve regional connectivity and promote tourism in the region.
