Hossam Hassan Sacked as Egypt’s Head Coach Amid Personal Scandal
The Egyptian Football Association has dismissed coach Hossam Hassan due to issues regarding his personal life and its impact on the team's image.

FILE, Nov 8: The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has terminated Hossam Hassan’s position as head coach of the national football team, citing concerns regarding the stability and image of the team. The decision, announced on Saturday, follows a review of recent events linked to Hassan’s personal life.
Ali Maher, who previously managed club team Ceramica Cleopatra, will take over as head coach. The EFA emphasized that maintaining the team’s stability is a top priority.
This move comes shortly after Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation banned Hassan from all media appearances due to ongoing controversies related to his ex-wife, Dina Mostafa. Reports indicate that Hassan’s lawyers have lodged a complaint against her for alleged forgery and bigamy.
Hassan’s tenure included significant achievements, such as leading Egypt to the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup and a semifinal finish in the Africa Cup of Nations. However, his decision to substitute star player Mohamed Salah during a recent draw with Angola drew criticism.
In light of these accomplishments, the EFA decided to part ways with Hassan. In a statement, they thanked him for his contributions and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Former player Mido had previously expressed concerns about the situation, stating it had become unmanageable and calling for intervention.
Maher will have to quickly adapt, as Egypt is scheduled to play Malawi on November 13 and 17 in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
