UK Police Received 2019 Allegations Against Meghan’s Father, Failed to Notify Others
British police received allegations against Thomas Markle in 2019, concerning serious offenses, but failed to notify other law enforcement agencies.

LONDON, Oct 25: British police in London confirmed they received a letter in January 2019 detailing allegations about Thomas Markle, the estranged father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, but did not share the information with other law enforcement agencies.
The Metropolitan Police Service clarified that the letter was intended to address security concerns regarding the Duchess. Although the letter was reviewed and communicated to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, its contents were never shared with other authorities. It remains unclear if any investigation ensued.
Meghan issued a statement expressing her distress over the allegations against her father, which include claims he possessed child sexual abuse images at his home in the Philippines. She stated, “I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.” Meghan explained she had previously been informed of “disturbing allegations” in 2018.
Authorities in the Philippines are actively investigating the situation. They confirmed that Thomas Markle is under scrutiny following allegations made by his son, Thomas Markle Jr., who claimed to have discovered numerous child exploitation images at his father’s home. Philippine officials stated they had secured Markle’s computer for forensic examination.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla described Thomas Markle as potentially a “possible sex offender of the grossest kind,” although he noted that a complete forensic investigation is needed to determine the facts. Remulla indicated that initial findings point toward serious criminal behavior.
In an interview, Thomas Markle denied the allegations, labeling them “sick lies.” He expressed shock and hurt over his son’s claims and indicated he would never commit such acts.
Meghan’s relationship with her father has been strained, with allegations of past abuse leading her to cut contact with him. She emphasized her decision to protect her children, stating she would not allow them to meet Thomas Markle.
As the Metropolitan Police review their past handling of the case, they are also contemplating whether to refer themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
