Philippine authorities are examining potential child sexual abuse images allegedly linked to Thomas Markle Sr., the estranged father of Meghan Markle, as officials warn he may be a serious offender.

Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla stated that evidence thus far points towards Markle Sr. being a “possible sex offender of the grossest kind.” A forensic examination is ongoing, with results expected within a week.

The investigation began after Thomas Markle Jr., Meghan’s half-brother, claimed he discovered hundreds, if not thousands, of child sexual abuse images while cleaning out their father’s former home in Cebu. He has contacted the FBI regarding the matter.

Meghan Markle has been estranged from Thomas Sr. since 2018 and reportedly informed him in a letter sent last December that he would never meet his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. In the letter, she confronted him about the allegations, stating that both she and authorities were aware of them.

Markle Sr. has denied these allegations, describing them as “sick lies.” He claims devices containing the purported images were not in his possession since leaving Mexico in 2025 and moving to the Philippines.

Meghan expressed her distress over the situation, stating, “I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.” She emphasized her decision to keep her father away from her children was solely to protect them.

The Philippine National Police are also investigating a laptop found at Markle Sr.’s home. Remulla confirmed that police had secured digital evidence and would cooperate with U.S. law enforcement if sufficient evidence emerges to charge him.

Amid the investigation, Thomas Markle Jr. recently apologized to Meghan for supporting their father, admitting he had been protecting the wrong person.

London’s Metropolitan Police previously received a letter in 2019 detailing allegations against Thomas Markle Sr. but did not pass this information to other agencies. The police are now reviewing their handling of the case following the recent revelations.
