Chittorgarh, May 24 – The month of May has proven to be exceptionally challenging for Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (AVVNL), particularly in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district, where unseasonal rainfall coupled with storms and high-speed winds have severely impacted the region’s power infrastructure. Over the past 23 days, the utility has recorded losses exceeding ₹2.36 crore due to repeated weather disruptions.

Despite the harsh conditions, AVVNL officials and ground staff acted promptly, initiating immediate repair and relief efforts in affected areas, ensuring minimum disruption to electricity supply for consumers.
Chittorgarh Among the Worst-Hit
The district experienced multiple rounds of erratic weather throughout the month, with regions like Nimbahera, Badisadri, Bhadesar, Sawa, Mangrol, and Dungla bearing the brunt. Gusty winds and downpours led to hundreds of electric poles and transformers collapsing, severely damaging transmission lines and infrastructure.
According to AVVNL sources, the storm activity damaged:
-
12 poles of 33 kV lines
-
598 poles of 11 kV lines
-
266 poles of LT lines
-
105 three-phase transformers
-
83 single-phase transformers
-
193 DP (distribution point) structures
Fortunately, no major accidents or casualties were reported, despite the large-scale damage to critical power systems.
May 23: The Worst Day for Power Infrastructure
The most significant single-day damage was reported on Thursday, May 23, when:
-
5 poles of 33 kV,
-
141 poles of 11 kV,
-
69 poles of LT lines,
-
37 three-phase transformers,
-
13 single-phase transformers,
-
and 74 DP structures were damaged across the district.
Many electric poles were either bent or completely uprooted, and several transformers fell to the ground, rendering them non-functional.
Swift Response and Restoration Efforts
R.S. Yadav, Superintending Engineer of AVVNL Chittorgarh, confirmed the extent of the damage and emphasized that restoration work began immediately in all impacted areas. “Wherever storm-related damage occurred, our teams were dispatched promptly to restore supply. We’ve assessed the losses and are processing equipment replacement as needed,” he said.
AVVNL has also actively responded to consumer complaints, ensuring that outage durations remained minimal despite the scale of the destruction.
As unpredictable weather patterns become more frequent, utility companies like AVVNL are grappling with mounting infrastructure challenges, further underscoring the need for resilient power systems and emergency response strategies.
