Lucknow, May 6, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): Uttar Pradesh continues to witness storm and rain activity for the past six days, although the weather remained clear on Wednesday morning with bright sunshine and cool breezes bringing relief from heat.
Late Tuesday night, Ghaziabad recorded heavy rain along with hailstorm, while Noida, Prayagraj and Mirzapur also received rainfall.
The Meteorological Department said that a western disturbance and snowfall in the hilly regions have led to a change in weather across the state. Maximum temperatures have dropped below 40°C, providing relief from intense heat. An alert has been issued for rain in 45 districts today, with wind speeds likely to reach up to 60 km per hour in some areas.
In the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall was recorded in around 45 cities including Lucknow and Agra. Hamirpur and Chitrakoot witnessed storms with wind speeds of up to 70 kmph, uprooting trees in several places. In Hamirpur, a woman returning from fields died after a tin shed fell on her. Vehicles were also damaged due to wall collapses in some areas.
Barabanki recorded the highest rainfall at 72 mm, followed by Siddharthnagar with 66 mm, Ambedkar Nagar with 42 mm and Gorakhpur with 41.4 mm.
Senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh from the Regional Meteorological Centre stated that cloud formation is occurring due to an active western disturbance over North India. Moist winds from the Bay of Bengal colliding with dry western winds are creating atmospheric instability. Such conditions are common during May, and fluctuations in weather are expected to continue till May 10.

- May 7: Thunderstorms and light to moderate showers likely across the state, with chances of hail.
- May 8: Western UP may see clear weather, while eastern parts could experience thunder and rain along with gusty winds.
- May 9: Western UP likely to remain clear, while eastern UP may witness rainfall and strong winds.
