New Delhi (Udaipur Kiran) — Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Geetanjali, has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court alleging that she has been followed and closely monitored by the Rajasthan Police and the Intelligence Bureau (IB). She also claimed that she was kept under surveillance in Delhi.

According to the affidavit, Geetanjali stated that when she visited her husband at Jodhpur Jail on October 7 and 11, she was under constant watch. She alleged that upon landing at Jodhpur Airport, she was immediately taken in a police vehicle and asked to share her complete travel details with officials before every visit.
Geetanjali further claimed that during her meeting with Wangchuk inside the jail, a DCP named Manglesh and a female constable were listening to and noting down their conversation. She added that she was not allowed to meet anyone else in Jodhpur, calling it a clear violation of her constitutional rights.
The Centre, on October 15, had informed the court that Sonam Wangchuk was made aware of the reasons for his arrest. Following this, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Geetanjali, said that the petition would be amended to challenge those grounds. Sibal also informed the court that Wangchuk had prepared certain notes contesting his arrest, but those notes were not being shared with his wife. The court later directed that the notes be handed over to Geetanjali through Wangchuk’s lawyer.
Earlier, on October 6, Kapil Sibal had argued that Wangchuk’s detention was unlawful, while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, maintained that the grounds for arrest had been duly provided to him.
The petition challenges the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk, who was taken into custody on September 26 and is currently lodged in Jodhpur Jail. Geetanjali has also expressed concern over the lack of information regarding her husband’s health even a week after his arrest.
Sonam Wangchuk had been leading a movement demanding full statehood for Ladakh. The agitation turned violent, resulting in the death of four people during a police firing incident in the region.
