Udaipur, June 4: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has postponed its proposed protest for five days following assurances from Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan regarding swift action against those responsible for the recent assault and vandalism at JP Orthopedics Hospital. The SP has committed to identifying the accused and initiating legal proceedings within five days under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP).
After the incident on Tuesday night, local doctors expressed their outrage during a meeting at RNT Medical College. Subsequently, an IMA delegation met with the SP. IMA State President Dr. Anand Gupta stated that the police have been given time to take action. If no substantial measures are taken within the stipulated period, the doctors will be compelled to resort to protests.
The incident involved a violent mob attacking doctors, with reports indicating that they assaulted Dr. Anand Gupta and even tore his clothes. The unrest was triggered when family members of Kuldeep Jain, a local textile trader, accused the hospital management of negligence following complications after his surgery. A large crowd gathered at JP Orthopedics Hospital, leading to chaos and physical confrontations with doctors and staff. Medical organizations have condemned the attack on healthcare services and are demanding strict action against the perpetrators.
