Search for Missing IAS Officer in Rajasthan Water Scam Intensifies

Jaipur, March 4: The search for former IAS officer Subodh Agarwal and other accused in the Rajasthan ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ scam is ongoing with a massive operation being conducted across several states. This special operation, which began on February 17, 2026, has now entered its 16th day.

A total of 40 dedicated search teams have been formed, comprising senior officials including Additional Superintendents of Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police, and Inspectors, to apprehend the accused. The entire operation is being monitored by Deputy Inspector Generals and Superintendents of Police to ensure effective coordination and swift action across various states.

According to officials, extensive search operations are underway at over 100 locations in approximately 21 cities, including major urban areas such as Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Nagaur, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Faridabad, Noida, Meerut, Prayagraj, and Mumbai. Raids have been conducted in high-profile areas such as C-Scheme, Manvawas, and Bajaj Nagar Extension in Jaipur; Defence Colony and New Moti Bagh in New Delhi; Sector-39 in Faridabad; Sohna in Haryana; and Malabar Hill and Juhu in Mumbai, targeting potential hideouts of the accused.

During the search operations, thorough investigations have been carried out at the residences of the accused, as well as properties belonging to their family members and associates, including farmhouses, flats, hotels, and other suspicious locations.

So far, around 50 individuals have been interrogated, including close relatives, friends, domestic staff, drivers, and those suspected of providing shelter to the accused. Additionally, four other individuals have been detained for extensive questioning on charges of aiding the accused. Investigative agencies are also focusing on technical aspects of the case.

CCTV footage and other digital evidence are being collected from properties located in five major cities to trace the movements and contacts of the absconding accused.

This entire case is linked to the alleged ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ scam, which has seen a recent acceleration in investigations. The case is being jointly investigated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Enforcement Directorate, and Central Bureau of Investigation.

The scam first came to light in June 2023 when Rajasthan’s Agriculture Minister Kirori Lal Meena initiated the inquiry. Approximately 20 individuals have been named in this case, including several serving and retired officials and engineers.

The ACB has conducted raids at around 15 locations in Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, resulting in the arrest of 10 accused, including one person captured from Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh.
