Udaipur, May 27 (Udaipur Kiran) – Hindustan Zinc Limited has achieved another major milestone in responsible metal production as its Rampura Agucha Mine became India’s first Zinc Mark certified mine.

The Rampura Agucha Mine, known as the world’s largest underground zinc-lead mine, received the certification under the globally recognised Zinc Mark assurance framework. The certification validates responsible zinc production based on international ESG standards, responsible sourcing practices and transparency across the value chain.
The company stated that the achievement strengthens its integrated approach towards responsible production across the entire value chain, from mining to smelting. The certification comes shortly after the company’s Chanderiya Smelting Complex also received Zinc Mark certification, making Hindustan Zinc the first company in India to offer responsibly sourced zinc across its full production chain.
The Zinc Mark certification is awarded after an independent third-party assessment conducted under the Copper Mark Assurance Framework. The assessment confirms that Rampura Agucha Mine complies with globally recognised standards related to environmental, social and governance practices.
The company said the certification further strengthens confidence among global customers looking for transparent, traceable and ESG-compliant raw materials. Industries worldwide are increasingly focusing not only on product quality but also on how metals are sourced, produced and managed throughout the supply chain.
A Vedanta Group company, Hindustan Zinc supplies products to sectors including steel galvanisation, infrastructure, automobile, renewable energy, electronics and advanced manufacturing. Demand for responsibly sourced and low-carbon materials is continuously increasing across these sectors.
Speaking on the achievement, Arun Misra said the certification reflects the company’s integrated approach towards responsible production and ESG excellence across its value chain.
He said global supply chains are increasingly prioritising responsibly sourced metals aligned with sustainability goals and compliance frameworks, adding that the recognition further strengthens customer trust in Hindustan Zinc as a reliable supplier of high-quality zinc backed by transparency and global ESG standards.
The company stated that Rampura Agucha Mine continues to set industry benchmarks through technology-driven mining, operational excellence and sustainable resource management. Hindustan Zinc also plans to gradually expand Zinc Mark certification across its operations.
The company added that it continues to advance sustainability-focused initiatives in decarbonisation, circular economy practices, biodiversity conservation and water positivity.
Recognised three consecutive times as the world’s most sustainable metals and mining company by S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2025, Hindustan Zinc said it remains committed to achieving net zero emissions by or before 2050 while continuing to supply responsibly produced metals for sustainable industrial growth.
