Jaipur, February 13 (Udaipur Kiran): Rajasthan Royals have appointed Riyan Parag as their captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season. He replaces Sanju Samson, who will now be seen playing for Chennai Super Kings.

The franchise announced the decision through its official social media handles on Friday. The 24-year-old Indian all-rounder has previously led Rajasthan Royals in a few matches.
Captaincy Record in IPL
In the previous IPL season, Riyan Parag captained the team in eight matches after Sanju Samson was sidelined due to injury. Under his leadership, Rajasthan Royals managed to win two out of eight matches.
Despite the limited success as captain, Parag had an impressive individual season. He scored 95 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, which remains his highest score in the league so far.
Seven Seasons with Rajasthan Royals
Riyan Parag made his IPL debut in 2019 with Rajasthan Royals and has been associated with the franchise for the past seven seasons. He has played 84 matches for the team, scoring 1,566 runs at an average of 26.10. He has also taken seven wickets in the tournament.
For the upcoming season, Rajasthan Royals will also have a new coach. The team has appointed former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara as head coach, replacing Rahul Dravid.
From Assam to Team India
Riyan Parag, an all-rounder from Assam, first gained attention during the India Under-19 tour of England in 2017. The squad included players like Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw. The same group went on to win the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2018.
