Mumbai, June 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 23rd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme during an event in Tarakeswar, West Bengal, on Saturday. Over 9.44 crore farmer families across the country received more than ₹18,880 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into their bank accounts.
With this installment, the total amount disbursed under the PM Kisan scheme has surpassed ₹4.28 lakh crore. This initiative is regarded as one of the largest DBT schemes globally, aimed at providing financial assistance to farmers and strengthening their income.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the central government is continuously working for the welfare of farmers and the development of the agricultural sector, promoting technology and modern farming practices to enhance farmers’ income.
Under the PM Kisan scheme, eligible farmers receive an annual financial aid of ₹6,000, distributed in three equal installments of ₹2,000 every four months directly into their bank accounts.
Beneficiary farmers can check their payment status on the official PM Kisan website by clicking on the ‘Know Your Status’ option. They can also verify the deposit of ₹2,000 in their accounts by checking their bank statements or passbooks.
During the event, Prime Minister Modi announced several significant development projects for West Bengal, including initiatives related to railways, roads, fisheries, animal husbandry, and agriculture.
Projects launched include a new railway division, a railway hospital, a bridge connecting Howrah and Radhmohanpur, rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III), a fishing harbor in Fraserganj, and a modern fish market in Birbhum.
The Prime Minister also introduced several new schemes aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector, including the Digital Agriculture Mission, National Natural Farming Mission, and Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhan Yojana.
These initiatives aim to promote the use of technology in agriculture, encourage natural farming, and increase farmers’ productivity and income.
