Kolkata, November 8 (Udaipur Kiran): The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in West Bengal has gained strong momentum, with more than 3.04 crore enumeration forms distributed across the state by 8 PM on Friday, according to figures released by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).
Launched on November 4, the campaign has made remarkable progress in just four days. As per the CEO’s office, around 80,681 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) deployed across all 294 assembly constituencies are visiting households to deliver two copies of the enumeration form. One copy is retained by the voter, while the other is collected for official electoral records.
Officials reported a sharp rise in the campaign’s pace over the last 24 hours — from 2.01 crore forms distributed by Thursday night to over 3.04 crore by Friday evening. The Election Commission attributed this surge to the active BLO network and effective coordination between local administration and electoral officers.
This year’s SIR drive is particularly significant as such a large-scale revision is being conducted in the state after 23 years. The last major revision was held in 2002. The current process aims to make the electoral rolls updated and error-free, with thorough monitoring and verification of each voter’s details.
However, reports of isolated incidents of attacks on BLOs and booth-level workers of political parties have surfaced from a few districts. Taking serious note of these incidents, the Election Commission has sought reports from the concerned district administrations. Officials have clarified that any attempt to obstruct or disrupt the process will not be tolerated and that adequate security measures are being ensured to protect field officers and guarantee that all eligible citizens receive the forms safely.
Sources within the Commission further revealed that additional supervisors are being deployed to meet the targets set for the first phase of the drive. The SIR campaign will continue till December 9, after which the collected data will be verified. The final updated voter list is scheduled to be published in January 2026.
