September 21, 2026: Mahindra is expected to introduce the facelifted version of its popular Thar 3-door SUV on September 22. The updated Thar has been spotted several times during testing, with images of the test vehicle also emerging.

The upcoming model is expected to focus more on design, features and cabin updates rather than major mechanical changes. The engine options are likely to remain largely unchanged.

Here are five major changes that could be seen in the new Mahindra Thar.

1. New Grille and Updated Front Design

The front of the new Thar could get a redesigned grille as one of the most noticeable changes.

The SUV is expected to feature a new five-slat grille design with the Thar logo. The design is reportedly inspired by the larger Thar Roxx.

The front bumper and air intake could also receive updates.

2. Roxx-Inspired LED Headlamps

The facelifted Thar could get round LED projector headlamps inspired by the Thar Roxx, along with C-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs).

The rear could also receive an updated tail-lamp design.

These changes are expected to give the existing 3-door Thar a more modern appearance.

3. New Alloy Wheels

Mahindra could introduce newly designed alloy wheels to give the SUV’s side profile a refreshed look.

Different wheel designs have reportedly been seen on testing models. However, the wheel size is expected to remain similar to the current model across most variants.

4. More Features Inside the Cabin

The overall interior design of the new Thar could remain similar to the existing model, but several new features are expected.

These may include a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, 360-degree camera, wireless charging and an auto-dimming IRVM.

The front seats could also receive ventilation, along with improved leatherette upholstery.

The final feature list could vary depending on the variant.

5. No Major Engine Changes Expected

Major mechanical changes are not expected in the facelifted Thar. The existing engine options could continue, including a 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine.

Depending on the engine and variant, manual and automatic gearbox options are expected to continue. Selected variants are also likely to retain the 4×4 option.

Current Thar Price

The existing Thar 3-door is priced at around ₹10.32 lakh to ₹18 lakh, ex-showroom.

The facelift could receive a slight price increase due to the updated design and additional features. However, Mahindra has not yet provided an official indication of the new pricing.
