Last year, OnePlus announced a lifetime warranty on its smartphone display for users who are facing the green line issue on their smartphone display. Now it appears that the Chinese tech brand is offering a display upgrade program for some mobile phone models in India to fix the green line display bug that has plagued AMOLED panels in recent years. The initiative is part of OnePlus’ Red Cable Club loyalty program and covers several older OnePlus phones, including the OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9R.
Astute X user Starcommander (@Starcommander10) noticed a new perk in OnePlus’ Red Cable Club loyalty program. A screenshot shared by a user shows that OnePlus is offering a lifetime free screen upgrade as part of this membership program. As per the offer, OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9R users are entitled to a “free screen upgrade” along with free phone cleaning and maintenance services at OnePlus service centers in India.
The screenshot shows that OnePlus devices without any external damage are eligible for this free service. They should not be mined “privately”.
OnePlus screen diagnostics and free service initiative
Additionally, a report from Android Authority revealed information about OnePlus’ free display upgrade. Apparently, the brand will offer free diagnostics and service that includes three levels of service. A comprehensive initial diagnosis includes checking the performance and reliability of the screen. The second screen upgrade and replacement service offers eligible users a “new expanded display panel” that improves display performance and finally a comprehensive cleaning service to ensure optimal performance.
OnePlus has reportedly confirmed that these efforts will focus primarily on the OnePlus 8 Pro. Depending on screen usage, we plan to extend this plan to some older models as well. “Devices with human-caused damage such as drops or liquid ingress are not eligible for this free upgrade and must be repaired through standard customer service,” OnePlus is quoted as saying in the report. This free display upgrade from OnePlus is apparently limited to Indian users for now. OnePlus is reportedly considering extending similar benefits to other regions such as the US.
Please remember that OnePlus officially acknowledged the infamous Green Line issue last year and announced a lifetime warranty program for affected smartphones. Under this program, the company replaces the display of damaged mobile phones free of charge. For some OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 9 series devices, the brand offered vouchers to upgrade to new OnePlus devices.
