NDA and Opposition Clash Over Jharkhand Student Protests in Parliament

New Delhi, August 11: During the monsoon session of Parliament on Tuesday, members of the NDA and opposition faced off as both sides staged separate protests outside the Makar Dwar on various issues, including the opposition’s selective outrage over the Jharkhand student movement and disruptions in Parliament.

While the BJP-led NDA accused the opposition of obstructing proceedings, the opposition demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah address the House regarding police action against protesting students.

NDA MPs were seen holding placards and chanting slogans targeting the opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “running away” from discussions on police actions against students. This protest occurred as the central government reiterated that Home Minister Amit Shah was prepared to make a statement on the matter in Parliament.

NDA members displayed placards with slogans like “Rahul Gandhi, don’t run from discussing Home Minister,” alleging that the opposition was deliberately avoiding discussions on police actions against students.

Carrying banners and posters against the opposition, NDA MPs stated that although the government was ready to discuss the student protests, the India bloc was attempting to disrupt parliamentary proceedings to evade the issue.

Some MPs were also seen holding banners condemning the opposition’s “silence” on police actions against peacefully protesting students in Jharkhand, demanding a statement from Rahul Gandhi on the issue.

Meanwhile, Congress MPs protested, demanding that Home Minister Amit Shah come to the House and make a statement. They chanted slogans like “Amit Shah, come to the House,” insisting that the Home Minister should address Parliament regarding police actions against the protesting students.

Congress MP Pawan Khera launched a sharp attack on the BJP and RSS, stating that discussions in Parliament were not possible without the presence of the Home Minister. He remarked that while Amit Shah runs away from the House, they do not. He criticized the RSS, calling them the biggest cowards.

He added, “When our government comes to power, we will give them a fitting reply. The existence of the organization called RSS will come to an end.”

Defending the Jharkhand government, Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh targeted the BJP for criticizing the state government, stating that despite being in power, they have failed to achieve anything. He emphasized that the Jharkhand government is working on the issue and that their leader Rahul Gandhi has stated that students should not be suppressed and their concerns should be heard.

In contrast, BJP MP Dinesh Sharma accused Rahul Gandhi of adopting a selective approach to issues concerning students, claiming that he has ignored the developments in Jharkhand.
