An evening before the beginning of the famed festival, the organizers arranged an exhibition at Jakarta’s National Monument. The festival is themed on Hindu mythology this year with images on kites depicting stories from Hindu religious epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata.
The kite festival of Jakarta has been one of the oldest and most famous long standing festivals of Indonesia.
Participants from across the country will compete to showcase their unique kite creations.
“It’s very very good to know again about the Ramayana and the Mahabharata (Hindu muthology epics), so this (themed kite festival) is (a) good idea,”a member of the Indonesian Kite Museum, Andal said.
