Indian Boxers Shine at Asian Boxing Championships

Tashkent, May 5: Indian young boxers continued their impressive performance at the Asian Boxing Under-15 and Under-17 Championships 2026 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

In the Under-17 boys’ category, Yash Yadav (50 kg) secured a remarkable 5:0 victory over Turkmenistan’s Suleiman Akhmedov, while Karuna Albertson Kom (60 kg) impressed everyone with a 4:1 win against Tajikistan’s Ali Nazarov.

Gopal Rameshwar Ganesh (52 kg) faced a challenging match but narrowly lost to Tajikistan’s Nazarov Damir with a score of 2:3. Prashant Mishra (57 kg) encountered a tough opponent in China’s Tangji Liu, suffering a 0:5 defeat.

In the girls’ Under-15 quarter-finals, Khushi Rana (49 kg) showcased an outstanding performance, winning by RSC (Referee Stopping Contest) in the first round against Vietnam’s Ngoc Truc Nguyen. Hansika Atri (46 kg) defeated Uzbekistan’s Visola Bakhtiyorova 5:0, while Nitya Pandey (55 kg) faced a tough contest against Kazakhstan’s Aruna Shalman and lost. In the boys’ Under-15 category, Sameer Bohra (43 kg) achieved a fantastic 5:0 victory over Taiwan’s Hao-Ting Chang in the opening round.

India’s Under-17 women boxers made a strong start at the Asian Boxing Under-17 Championships 2026, recording five impressive wins on the first day.

In the boys’ category, Neela Narendra Kumar (46 kg) won by RSC against Saudi Arabia’s Khalid Alhosah in the first round. Meanwhile, Daksh Panwar (48 kg) faced a tough match, losing 0–5 to Tajikistan’s Firuzjon Boymatov. With a combination of spectacular victories and tough matches, the Indian contingent continues to showcase its promising talent across various age groups at this tournament in Tashkent.
