India Post to Become Modern and Strong: Jyotiraditya Scindia

Guntur, February 23: Union Minister for Communications and Development of the Northeastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, addressed over 9,000 rural postal workers at a conference held in Guntur. He highlighted the Andhra Pradesh circle as a frontline strength in the transformation journey of India Post.

Accompanying him on stage was Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Scindia described the occasion as emotional, noting his long-standing relationship with Naidu, who had previously worked with his grandmother, Vijaya Raje Scindia, and father, Madhav Rao Scindia.

Scindia mentioned a small town in Andhra Pradesh named ‘Scindia,’ which is linked to his family’s heritage. He revealed that his great-grandfather had established a significant shipping and shipbuilding business on the Andhra coast before independence.

The minister emphasized that rural postal workers are best acquainted with the problems and hopes of village residents. He referred to them as the shining gems of India, serving across all seasons from the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand to the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh.

He noted that rural postal workers serve as a vital link of trust between the government and the public in over 650,000 villages across the country.

Scindia shared that during his previous tenure, he had initiated benefits for rural postal workers, including umbrellas, shoes, stationery, and bicycle allowances. Additionally, in 2009, he secured the right for their children to gain admission to central schools through a gazette notification.

He stated that there are currently over 380 million postal savings accounts operating across the country, with approximately ₹22 lakh crore mobilized, reflecting public trust.

Scindia affirmed that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Reform, Perform, Transform,’ India Post is being modernized and strengthened. He expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh would lead in the parcel revolution due to its rapidly growing economy.

With the increase in agricultural exports, MSMEs, and e-commerce in the country, the need to deliver goods to the last mile is rapidly growing. He concluded that with a network of over 165,000 post offices, India Post will stand strong in the competition.
