Chandigarh, February 18: A shocking incident has emerged from Tarn Taran, Punjab, where a sitting sarpanch was shot dead in broad daylight on Wednesday. According to reports, the assailants targeted Harpinder Singh, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, while he was attending a wedding ceremony at Siddhu Farm on the Bathinda-Tarn Taran National Highway.
Harpinder Singh, a resident of village Thathiyan, was at the wedding when three unidentified attackers opened fire, resulting in his immediate death. His cousin, Germanjeet Singh, was also seriously injured in the attack and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene and have initiated a search for the attackers. This incident follows a similar attack in Amritsar, where another sarpanch from the Aam Aadmi Party was brutally murdered.
SSP Surinder Lamba stated that the attack occurred at the Siddhu Marriage Farm, where two unknown individuals targeted Harpinder Singh. He confirmed that the sarpanch succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. Another individual, who attempted to chase the attackers, was also shot in the leg and is currently receiving medical care. Lamba mentioned that no threats or extortion calls have been identified in the initial investigation, and the case appears to be related to personal enmity. Four teams have been assigned to the case, and Lamba is personally overseeing the investigation to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.
