New Delhi, October 30 (Udaipur Kiran) — Team India scripted history by reaching the final of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 for the third time, defeating Australia by 5 wickets in the second semifinal at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on Thursday.
With this victory, India has set up a title clash against South Africa, which will also be played at the same venue on November 2. While this is India’s third appearance in a World Cup final, South Africa has reached the final for the first time.
Earlier, the Indian women’s team had made it to the World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017 but fell short on both occasions.
In 2005, India lost to Australia by 98 runs after being bowled out for 117 in pursuit of a 216-run target. In 2017, England edged past India by just 9 runs, after India were dismissed for 219 while chasing 229.

In Thursday’s semifinal, Australia, batting first, posted a massive 338 runs, thanks to Phoebe Litchfield’s brilliant 119-run knock. In reply, India chased down the target in 48.3 overs, led by a stellar unbeaten 127 from Jemimah Rodrigues and a captain’s innings of 89 runs by Harmanpreet Kaur.
With this emphatic win, India has not only avenged its past losses but also entered the final with strong momentum. The championship match against South Africa promises to be a thrilling contest, as both sides will battle for their maiden Women’s ODI World Cup title.
