Historic Century by Azmatullah Omarzai

Mumbai, October 30: Afghanistan’s all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai made history by scoring a remarkable century while batting at number six against Zimbabwe in the second T20I. This achievement makes him the first player from full-member teams to accomplish such a feat.

The match saw Afghanistan struggling initially, losing four wickets for just five runs. However, Omarzai’s explosive innings turned the game around. He scored 116 runs off 50 balls, hitting five fours and twelve sixes, leading Afghanistan to a total of 222 runs. This was particularly impressive given the team’s precarious position, as they seemed likely to be bowled out for under 100 runs.

Omarzai’s record-breaking century surpasses the previous highest score for a number six batsman in T20Is by a full-member team, which was held by Mohammad Nabi, who scored 89 runs against Ireland in 2017.

Zimbabwe put up a strong fight in response, with captain Sikandar Raza scoring 106 runs off 56 balls. However, they fell short, finishing at 202 runs for the loss of five wickets. Afghanistan won the match by 19 runs, securing both the match and the series.

Omarzai’s remarkable performance has set a new benchmark in T20 cricket, showcasing his talent on an international stage.
