India won against China 5-2, with Sukhjeet and Harmanpreet each scoring two goals.

India’s men’s hockey team triumphed over China with a score of 5-2 in the Asian Champions Trophy on Thursday. This victory marked India’s second consecutive win in the tournament.
Coach Craig Fulton acknowledged the challenges posed by the Chinese team, noting their effective defensive strategy. India, while clearly the superior side, needed to adapt quickly to their opponent’s tactics.
Sukhjeet Singh opened the scoring for India in the 12th minute, skillfully converting a long aerial pass. However, China equalized with Yang Peng’s penalty corner goal in the 26th minute. Just a minute later, Harmanpreet Singh scored from a penalty corner, restoring India’s lead.
After halftime, India maintained momentum, with both Harmanpreet and Sukhjeet adding goals within the first four minutes. China pulled back with another penalty corner goal, but Jugraj Singh later secured India’s fifth goal through another penalty corner.
Fulton expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, particularly in their execution of penalty corners and overall pace. He pointed out the third quarter as their best, stating, “We started to move the ball and we had a bit more tempo.” He credited China for their strong defensive play, remarking that they defended well and made the game enjoyable.
India had previously dominated Bangladesh with a score of 13-0, demonstrating their offensive capabilities. The team is set to face Japan next in their round-robin matches.
