Jaipur, October 27 (Udaipur Kiran): Unseasonal rains returned to Rajasthan on Monday as the combined effect of cyclonic circulations over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea changed weather patterns across the state. Light to heavy showers were recorded in nearly 14 cities, with Pratapgarh receiving the highest rainfall of 3 inches.

According to the Meteorological Department, cities including Ajmer, Bhilwara, Vanasthali, Jaipur, Dungarpur, Karauli, Kota, Chittorgarh, Dabok, Jodhpur, and Pratapgarh experienced rainfall. The department has issued an orange alert for six districts and a yellow alert for 17 others, warning of more moderate to heavy rain in the coming days. Dungarpur also recorded over 2 inches of rainfall.
Temperature Drop and Local Impact
The widespread rain brought a drop of 2°C to 8°C in daytime temperatures, while night temperatures rose slightly. In Udaipur, continuous rainfall in catchment areas led to the opening of two gates of Udaysagar Dam, six inches each. Several areas, including Kherwara, reported damage to harvested crops, particularly maize and jowar, as waterlogged fields left farmers counting losses.
Weather Department Update
Radheyshyam Sharma, Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, said that a deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal has now intensified into Cyclone Motha, expected to move toward the Andhra Pradesh coast as a severe cyclonic storm within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, another low-pressure system persists over the east-central Arabian Sea, and a western disturbance is active over northwest India. These combined systems are expected to bring widespread rainfall to southern and eastern Rajasthan on October 28, with moderate to heavy showers likely in Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions.
Heavy rainfall activity is likely to peak on October 28, particularly in Kota and Udaipur divisions, before subsiding from October 29. However, light to moderate rain may continue in parts of southern and eastern Rajasthan till October 30, and sporadic showers could persist into early November.
Dry Conditions in Northern Rajasthan
In contrast, Bikaner division and Shekhawati region are expected to remain mostly dry over the next week. On Sunday, Khatholi (Kota) recorded 69 mm rainfall, while western Rajasthan remained dry. Jaisalmer recorded the highest daytime temperature at 34.7°C, Phalodi had the warmest night at 23.8°C, and Pilani recorded the coldest night at 14.3°C.
Drizzle and Cool Winds in Jaipur
In Jaipur, clouds gathered late Sunday night, followed by intermittent drizzle through Monday afternoon and evening. The city’s maximum temperature dropped by 6°C while the minimum rose by 3°C, settling at 25°C and 23.3°C, respectively. By evening, 0.7 mm of rainfall was recorded, giving residents a brief taste of winter chill amid cloudy skies.
