Patna, February 23: A tragic incident unfolded late Sunday night at a reception party in the Gopalpur police station area of Patna district, Bihar, where gunfire resulted in the deaths of two brothers. Reports indicate that the shooting was linked to an ongoing dispute.
According to police, the incident took place in Shahpur village during a reception party celebrating the marriage of Daulat Rai’s son. Guests were enjoying food and conversing when assailants arrived and opened fire.
Manish and Manjeet, who were dining at the time, were struck by bullets. Local residents rushed them to the hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead. The reception party descended into chaos following the shooting.
Patna (East) Superintendent of Police Parichay Kumar stated on Monday that preliminary investigations suggest the incident stemmed from a prior dispute. Three shell casings were recovered from the scene, and police are conducting a thorough investigation while searching for the suspects involved.
Local sources revealed that the deceased brothers’ family had a longstanding land dispute, which had even reached the courts. It is believed that this ongoing conflict may have led to the tragic event.
The police have taken possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examinations. The family of the deceased is in a state of shock, with relatives mourning the loss.
