The Google Pixel 9 series is scheduled to launch globally and in India on August 13. According to previous reports, Google may offer a satellite SOS service with similar features to Apple in its upcoming flagship smartphone series. The release of the latest Android 15 beta update suggests that the tech company may offer free Pixel Satellite SOS for up to two years, which is the same as the free service period that Apple offers for Pixel devices.
Free Pixel Satellite SOS service
In a report, Android Authority has teamed up with consultant AssembleDebug to remove the latest Android 15 Beta 4 update released last week. Strings found in the update code suggest that Google may be considering an emergency satellite connection feature called Pixel Satellite SOS.
The feature reportedly includes information such as name, email address, phone number, location, emergency contacts and device details sent when users connect to emergency services via satellite, indicating it is being shared.
Furthermore, the leaked threads also suggest that Google may offer Pixel SOS SOS for free for two years. Additional text in the footer reads: “Satellite SOS is free for {2} years.” This period coincides with two years of the satellite emergency SOS service that Apple offers to users of iPhone 14 and later models.
Another study suggests that Pixel devices may be updated to support Satellite SOS. With the Google Pixel 9 series expected to run on Android 15, older Pixel models are expected to receive an update to support emergency satellite communications.
The existence of this feature was first reported by Mishal Rahman in March. We believe an update to the Adaptive Connectivity Services app introduced the SOS* Satellite Settings page under the Security and Emergency tab. It is recommended that this includes information on how it works, how to customize the information shared with emergency service providers, and even a link to purchase Garmin Search and Rescue insurance.
