Mumbai, 13 November (Udaipur Kiran)। Mulund Police has uncovered a major cyber fraud racket operating from a residential flat in Mulund West. During a raid, officers busted a fake international call centre and arrested five accused who were allegedly cheating citizens in the United States and Canada. Police also seized a large quantity of electronic equipment and cash from the spot.

According to the Senior Inspector of Mulund Police Station, the operation was carried out based on a confidential tip-off. Information was received that a group in the Mulund Colony area was running a fraudulent call centre. The accused posed as officials of US-based banks or financial companies and lured foreign nationals by offering instant loans. Victims were asked to pay a processing fee, but no loan was ever provided.
When the police raided the flat, 27-year-old Sagar Gupta was found to be the main operator. He had hired Abhishek Singh, Tanmay Dhad Singh, Shailesh Shetty and Rohan Ansari to run the illegal setup. All five were arrested from the spot. Police recovered two laptops, 11 mobile phones, two routers and Rs. 76,000 in cash.
The accused presented themselves as employees of a financial firm named “Lending Point” and used e-SIM cards to contact their targets. They promised unsecured payday loans, but even after collecting processing charges, victims received nothing. The group is suspected to have cheated people of several lakhs.
Police have registered a case under Sections 316(2), 318(2), 338, 340(2), 319(2) and 336 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. The accused were running the call centre without any legal authorisation.
The Senior Inspector said, “This was a well-organised international fraud operation. We have seized all digital evidence. A forensic probe is underway to identify the number of victims. Coordination with foreign agencies will also be initiated.”
