Chandigarh, May 11, 2025 – Tensions remain high in Punjab despite the recent ceasefire declaration between India and Pakistan. On Saturday night, residents of Pathankot and Amritsar were jolted awake by loud explosion sounds, triggering renewed blackouts across multiple cities, including those previously declared safe by the Punjab government.

Explosions and Sirens Disrupt Night Peace
Residents in Amritsar reported explosions around 4:00 AM on Sunday, while Pathankot locals heard loud blasts near Madhopur around 10:00 PM on Saturday. Authorities swiftly enforced blackouts and sounded emergency sirens, urging residents to remain indoors. Although the Punjab government had lifted blackout orders on Saturday evening, the latest disturbances led to re-imposition of blackouts in at least six districts overnight.
No Drone or Missile Strikes Confirmed
While Pakistan has launched 12 aerial attacks over the past three days targeting 12 Punjab districts, including military and civilian zones, India’s Air Defense Systems successfully neutralized all threats. As of now, no new drone or missile strike has been confirmed following the Saturday night explosions.
Authorities in both Pathankot and Amritsar confirmed no physical damage or debris from aerial attacks. However, military patrols and police units maintained overnight vigilance, especially in border areas, enforcing strict lighting restrictions during the blackout.
Government Response and Public Advisory
Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, Sakshi Sahni, stated that while the region remains on red alert, power was restored by 5:20 AM on Sunday. She advised the public to remain cautious and to follow official instructions for their safety.
In Pathankot, police teams ensured complete blackout compliance, even instructing households to switch off lights during the emergency period. Power was gradually restored from 5:00 AM onwards, as the situation normalized.
Elsewhere in Punjab—Firozpur, Jalandhar, and Muktsar Sahib—no unusual incidents were reported, and the night passed peacefully.
Continued Security Measures Amid Red Alert
Despite no confirmed new attacks, Punjab remains under heightened security. Civil and defense authorities continue to monitor the situation closely amid fears of further provocations. The public has been urged to remain indoors during alerts, avoid spreading rumors, and stay connected to official information channels.
