Udaipur, March 30 (Udaipur Kiran): Police have arrested three accused involved in the theft of jewellery worth ₹1.80 crore, including 100 kg of silver and 200 grams of gold, in the Kurabad police station area of Udaipur. Around 30 kg of stolen silver has been recovered, while three other accused are still absconding.

Disclosing the case, SP Dr Amrita Duhan said that the arrested accused have been identified as Shiva alias Shivalal Kanjar, Kalulal Kanjar, and Mahendra Kanjar, all residents of Vijaypur in Chittorgarh district. Police records show that Shiva has five previous cases of theft and burglary, Kalulal has eight, and Mahendra has 16 cases registered against him.

During interrogation, it was revealed that a total of six accused were involved in the crime. The remaining accused — Arjun, Ramchandra, and Kundan — are currently on the run, and efforts are underway to arrest them and recover the remaining jewellery.

According to police, the accused used a unique method to carry out the thefts. They would travel to different towns and villages at night on motorcycles and wear women’s clothes to hide their identity while conducting reconnaissance and executing the crime. They did not carry mobile phones and communicated using coded bird sounds. They targeted locked and deserted houses and shops while carrying weapons.

The theft took place on March 15 at Mohit Jewellers in Sadar Bazaar of Kurabad, from where the accused stole 100 kg of silver and 200 grams of gold packed in sacks. They also broke the CCTV cameras and took away the DVR. However, footage from a nearby shop captured around six masked men moving with sharp weapons.

The victim’s family resides in Udaipur and commutes to the shop. Tenants living on the first floor had been away since March 11, and the accused took advantage of the situation to execute the theft.
