Chennai, November 19 (Udaipur Kiran). The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday carried out raids at more than 10 locations across Chennai in connection with an alleged illegal financial transactions case.

The searches, which began on Wednesday morning, created a stir in several parts of the city as ED teams were seen moving simultaneously through multiple residential and commercial zones.
According to sources, ED officials arrived in a convoy and launched coordinated raids in Saidapet, Kotturpuram, KK Nagar, MGR Nagar, Sowcarpet, Kilpauk, Kodambakkam and parts of Ambattur.
Residents were taken by surprise as ED personnel entered various premises. Eyewitnesses reported seeing officials conduct searches at several locations.
One of the major searches of the day took place at the Chaitanya Apartment complex in Kilpauk, where officials raided the residence of iron trader Nirmal Kumar.
Another significant raid was carried out at Kalaichelvan’s Saidapet residence in Srinagar Colony, while ED teams also searched the apartment of Prakash in Thiruvenkada Nagar, Ambattur.
Documents, digital storage devices and financial records were reportedly examined during the operations.
Initial information suggests that complaints of large-scale illegal financial transactions and suspected hawala routes operating in the city prompted the searches.
Officials said details regarding seizures, arrests or further action will be shared only after the day-long inspection process concludes.
The agency has earlier searched the premises of several political figures from both ruling and opposition camps in cases related to money laundering and disproportionate assets. Business groups linked to real estate, construction, gold and diamond trade, textiles and sand mining have also faced ED investigations in recent months, with some operations yielding significant unaccounted cash and key documents.
Past raids have drawn attention as well, including searches at premises linked to associates of a former minister in Teynampet, an investigation into a major textile group in Parrys, and action against multiple real estate firms in South Chennai.
The agency has been acting on complaints of financial irregularities across Tamil Nadu, with similar operations conducted recently in Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Tiruppur and Karur.
With searches carried out at more than 10 locations on Wednesday, ED’s intensified action has once again triggered unease in political and business circles.
