Mumbai, June 20: Renowned filmmaker and director Dibakar Banerjee, who once worked in an advertising company, will celebrate his 57th birthday on June 21. Born on June 21, 1969, in Delhi, Banerjee has significantly influenced Hindi cinema with his films that blend social realism, deep insights, and a unique sense of humor. He made his mark in Bollywood with his debut film “Khosla Ka Ghosla.”
Not only a director, but Banerjee is also a screenwriter and producer. Before entering the film industry, he gained considerable recognition in advertising and owns his production company, ‘Dibakar Banerjee Productions.’
After moving from Delhi to Mumbai, he shot several television shows and engaged with actor Anupam Kher to create “Khosla Ka Ghosla.” The film received critical acclaim and audience appreciation, earning a National Award and establishing him among renowned directors.
In 2008, he directed his second film, “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!” which also became a box office success and earned him national honors. Some of his notable films include “Love, Sex Aur Dhokha,” “Shanghai,” and “Byomkesh Bakshy.”

In 2011, Banerjee faced controversy when actress Payal Rohtagi accused him of casting couch practices, claiming he pressured her for sexual relations in exchange for a role. Banerjee responded to the allegations, stating, “If I were to cheat on my wife, I would do it with a non-actor. Why would I demand anything in return for giving someone a role?”
