New Delhi, July 28 (Udaipur Kiran) – A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court demanding an independent investigation into the tragic incident in Old Rajendra Nagar on the evening of July 27, where three students lost their lives due to sudden flooding in the basement of RAU’S IAS Study Circle, a coaching institute preparing students for UPSC exams. The petition has been filed by the National Migrant Forum.
The petition, filed by lawyer A.P. Singh, requests measures to ensure the safety of students studying in coaching institutions in Delhi. It also demands adequate compensation for the families of the three deceased students. The petition seeks directives for the Delhi Municipal Corporation to implement safety measures and issue guidelines for precautions in coaching institutions.
The basement of RAU’S IAS Study Circle, where the tragedy occurred, houses a library where UPSC students were studying. The sudden influx of water in the basement trapped the students, leading to their deaths. The distressing incident has been shared on social media.
Following the incident, the Delhi Police have arrested two individuals: Abhishek Gupta, the owner of the coaching institute, and Coordinator Deshpal Singh. The police have registered cases under various sections for culpable homicide not amounting to murder against these individuals, as well as against the building management, drainage system maintenance personnel, and other implicated parties. The charges are filed under Sections 105, 106(1), 115(2), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code.
