Dates (Chhuara) Offer Major Benefits for Heart and Brain, Especially When Eaten at Night

New Delhi, 19 November (Udaipur Kiran). With the onset of winter, it becomes an ideal time to include vegetables and dry fruits in the daily diet. Ayurveda states that during this season, the digestive fire becomes stronger, helping the body digest even heavier foods with ease. This makes winter the right time to consume dry fruits that provide warmth, strength and nourishment. One such superfood is chhuara, also known as dried dates.

Though small in appearance, chhuara is rich in energy, nutrition and medicinal properties. Ayurveda considers it a strength-enhancing food, as it helps keep the body warm, boosts energy and reduces fatigue. Consuming chhuara in winter is considered highly beneficial. Experts recommend taking 2–3 dried dates boiled in milk at night, which helps maintain body warmth and protects against minor seasonal infections.

Chhuara is also good for heart health. It contains potassium and iron, which help improve blood circulation and raise haemoglobin levels. This supports healthy heart function and may help prevent sudden fluctuations in blood pressure. It is equally beneficial for the brain, as the magnesium and phosphorus present in it strengthen nerves and help reduce mental stress.

Regular consumption of chhuara helps combat weakness and fatigue. It is rich in calcium, which strengthens bones and teeth, making it especially beneficial for the elderly. Chhuara powder boiled in milk can also be given to older adults for added nourishment.

It is also known to provide relief from joint pain, support skin and hair health, purify the blood and benefit lactating mothers.
