Kingston, 19 November (Udaipur Kiran). The Caribbean island nation of Curaçao created history on Tuesday by qualifying for the FIFA World Cup for the first time, becoming the smallest country ever to achieve this milestone.

Curaçao, with a population of just 1.56 lakh, secured qualification after a hard-fought 0–0 draw against Jamaica in Kingston. Despite intense second-half pressure from the hosts, the visitors held firm to earn the crucial point that booked their ticket to the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Nicknamed the “Blue Wave,” Curaçao completed a remarkable fairytale journey, finishing at the top of Group B with 12 points from six matches — one point ahead of Jamaica.
With next year’s World Cup expanding to 48 teams, Curaçao now holds the record for being the smallest country to qualify, surpassing Iceland, which held the previous record after making it to the 2018 World Cup with a population of around 3.5 lakh.
