Jerusalem, August 16: On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, Israel’s iconic Cordes Bridge was illuminated in the colors of the Indian flag. The vibrant saffron, white, and green lights symbolized the deepening friendship between India and Israel.
The Indian Embassy in Israel shared images of the event on the social media platform X, describing it as a glimpse of the unbreakable bond between the two nations. The embassy stated, “The friendship between India and Israel is shining bright. On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, the famous Cordes Bridge in Jerusalem lit up in the colors of the Indian flag.”
The post further emphasized, “This friendship is a strong symbol of shared values and a promising future. Together, India and Israel are working towards a better and stronger tomorrow.”
The Indian Embassy organized several events to celebrate Independence Day, attended by members of the Indian Jewish community, expatriates, and friends of India. The embassy reported that the 80th Independence Day celebration was marked with “great enthusiasm and zeal.” Notably, the national song “Vande Mataram” was sung for the first time during the celebrations, commemorating its 150th anniversary.
The event commenced with Ambassador J.P. Singh hoisting the Indian national flag, followed by the singing of the national anthem. Ambassador Singh also read out the President of India’s Independence Day message to the nation.
Winners of the “Know India Quiz” and “India Through My Lens” photography competition were honored during the ceremony. Students from the Indian Cultural Center added vibrancy to the celebrations with dance performances showcasing India’s rich cultural diversity.
The embassy extended Independence Day greetings to Indians in Israel and around the world, while the illumination of the tricolor in Jerusalem highlighted the warm and ever-strengthening ties between India and Israel.
