New Delhi, August 14: Congress leaders have come to the defense of Rahul Gandhi following his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s behavior during foreign trips. Congress MPs Pramod Tiwari and Sukdev Bhagat clarified that Gandhi’s comments were not directed at Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, but rather at Modi’s conduct during his international visits. Additionally, Congress leader Udit Raj raised questions regarding the Prime Minister’s approach to meeting foreign representatives.
Pramod Tiwari stated in an interview that Rahul Gandhi merely questioned whether people had forgotten “Operation Sindoor.” He emphasized that Gandhi was highlighting a time when India did not receive the expected international support. Tiwari asserted that Gandhi’s comments were about Modi’s behavior during foreign trips and should not be linked to any specific foreign leader.
Tiwari also raised serious concerns about the absence of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister during parliamentary sessions, claiming it was unprecedented for them not to be present during the national anthems. He argued that no Prime Minister or Home Minister has ever disrespected the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in such a manner. Citing Article 75 of the Constitution, Tiwari stressed that the government is accountable to Parliament and questioned the necessity of ministerial presence when bills were listed for discussion.
He warned that the opposition would not silently witness the disrespect towards the Constitution, Parliament, and “Bharat Mata.” Tiwari also demanded accountability from the government regarding actions taken against students, stating that the opposition would continue to seek answers in cases involving police action against students.
Sukdev Bhagat further clarified that Rahul Gandhi’s remarks were not aimed at Giorgia Meloni. According to him, Gandhi was referring to Modi’s behavior and gestures during his foreign trips. He noted that Gandhi’s statements are often misinterpreted or linked to the Gandhi family or specific leaders, while the context in this case was different.
Udit Raj commented on Modi’s tendency to embrace foreign representatives without clear purpose, emphasizing the importance of maintaining dignity in such meetings. He referenced “Operation Sindoor,” noting that many countries did not support India during that time, with some even siding with Pakistan. Raj accused the government of failing to raise sufficient questions on the matter at that time.
He reiterated Gandhi’s claim that no leader or official within the BJP has the courage to give the Prime Minister sound advice. Raj concluded by stating that there is a need for honest discussions with the Prime Minister, which he feels is currently lacking.
