Lucknow, May 1: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the ‘Labour Day Ceremony 2026’ at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in the state capital on Friday. During the event, he emphasized that there would be no compromise on the rights of workers, stating, “Those who do not pay for work will face strict action from the government.”
The Chief Minister launched several welfare schemes for workers and distributed certificates and toolkits to workers from various districts, honouring five selected workers with special toolkits on stage. Additionally, tablets were distributed to meritorious students from Atal Residential Schools, and principals from schools in Prayagraj and Jhansi were also recognised.
In his address, CM Yogi highlighted that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the ‘Entrepreneurial State’ and a growth engine for the country’s economy. He noted that while around 14,000 industries were established in the state from 1947 to 2017, over 18,000 new industries have been set up since 2017, providing millions of job opportunities.
Referring to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Minister targeted the opposition, stating that while many leaders were inactive during that challenging time, the government took significant steps to support workers. Thousands of buses were deployed to bring back migrant workers, and free food and housing arrangements were made. The distribution of free rations through newly issued ration cards continues to this day. CM Yogi asserted that the state government is consistently working towards the social and economic empowerment of workers, with millions of families receiving gas connections under the Ujjwala scheme and many benefiting from free rations.
He mentioned that strict action is being taken against those infringing on the rights of the poor. Highlighting initiatives in education and health, CM Yogi stated that Atal Residential Schools are being operated for the children of workers, providing quality education. He also announced the foundation stone for a new composite school for workers’ children in Jewar (Noida).
On health facilities, the Chief Minister noted that the Ayushman Bharat scheme offers free treatment for the poor, with provisions for Ayushman cards for eligible workers. Families of workers who die in accidents will receive insurance coverage of up to five lakh rupees.
Discussing housing and sanitation schemes, he mentioned that millions have been provided with homes in recent years, and a significant number of toilets have been constructed, leading to an improved standard of living.
