Udaipur : Despite the Parliament having passed the bill prohibiting muslim men to annul marriage by uttering ‘triple talaq’, complaints keep pouring in from different areas from distressed women.
The latest has come from a 40-year old woman in Chittorgarh who appeared before the SP on monday and complained that her husband annulled their marriage by uttering ‘talaq’ three times, two days ago. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage), Bill, 2019, which criminalizes instant ‘triple talaq’ among Muslims, has come to force in August, which attracts a jail term of three years for the husband.
The complainant Salma Begum told the police officer that her husband is a contractor who was habitual of abusing her. But the woman suffered the battering silently for the sake of their four children. The woman said that recently she had gone to stay with her parents for some days and when she came back, she found that her husband had sold their two houses. When she saw unknown people living there, she went to her husband Mustagir Ansari.
The woman said that instead of feeling guilty for the act, her husband quarreled and uttered talaq three times thus ending their relationship. Salma Begum told the officer that she had gone to the Kotwali police station to register her complaint but the cops didnt pay heed to her misery. Sources claimed that the woman’s husband had another relationship and it was likely that he did not want to share his property with his wife.
