The Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays will face off in the World Series starting Friday, marking the first time since 1980 that the matchup guarantees a new champion. With both teams seeking their first title, the stakes are high.

The Rays, in their 29th season, previously reached the World Series in 2008 and 2020, but have yet to claim a championship. This year, they finished with a 98-64 record and advanced by sweeping the Yankees in the ALDS and defeating the Guardians in six games in the ALCS. Manager Kevin Cash has led the team with a strong pitching staff and solid offensive performance, including standout players like Yandy Díaz and rookie Junior Caminero.

Meanwhile, the Brewers secured their fourth consecutive NL Central title and achieved a franchise record with 103 wins this season. They fought through tough series against the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers to reach the World Series, sweeping the Dodgers after defeating them in the 2025 NLCS. Their roster is a mix of top draft picks and successful trades, with players like Brice Turang and William Contreras contributing significantly.

Both teams are among the fastest in MLB, with the Brewers leading in sprint speed and total steals. The Rays recorded 164 regular season steals, while the Brewers had 162. In the playoffs, Tampa Bay has stolen 11 bases without being caught, and Milwaukee has 10 steals in 12 attempts.

The Rays’ running game features Chandler Simpson, who leads the American League in steals. The Brewers, however, have a more evenly spread running threat, with seven players stealing at least 11 bases during the season. David Hamilton led Milwaukee with 30 steals and has been perfect in the postseason.

A key element of the matchup is the difference in the teams’ ability to prevent stolen bases. The Brewers allowed the fewest stolen bases in the league, whereas the Rays were less effective, ranking among the worst. Game 1 will feature Milwaukee’s Jacob Misiorowski, known for being tough to steal against, versus Tampa Bay’s Drew Rasmussen, who has faced more challenges in that area.

As the teams prepare for Game 1, the potential for a fast-paced series is high. This matchup is rare for two major base-stealing teams to meet in the World Series. The competition promises speed and strategy, setting the stage for an exciting Fall Classic.
