BJP Leaders Confident of Victory in Assam Assembly Elections

New Delhi, May 4: As the counting of votes continues for assembly elections across four states and Puducherry, BJP leaders have expressed confidence in the party’s performance, particularly in Assam, where early trends and initial reactions indicate a lead for the ruling party.

BJP leader Ramkripal Yadav stated, “The BJP government is set to return in Assam, and it seems that people in other states also desire change.”

Another party leader, Charu Pragya, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “The trends in Assam are completely in favor of the BJP.”

Bhupen Bora, the BJP candidate from the Behpuria assembly constituency, also expressed hope regarding the party’s prospects, highlighting the support from voters for the state leadership. He noted, “The people of Assam have united under Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership because Assam needs development.”

These statements came after the counting began at 8 AM across Assam, where 722 candidates are contesting from 126 assembly constituencies. The counting is taking place at 40 centers spread across 35 districts, with candidates, observers, and supporters closely monitoring the early trends. As of 9:30 AM, early trends indicate that the BJP is leading in 24 seats.

The elections in Assam are viewed as a significant political test, with the BJP-led NDA aiming to return to power for the third consecutive time, while Congress and other regional forces seek to challenge its dominance. The election campaign has revolved around issues of identity, welfare schemes, and regional aspirations.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is contesting from his stronghold Jalukbari, attempting to achieve a political hat-trick. Congress state president Gaurav Gogoi is contesting from Jorhat for the first time, while AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal is making a comeback in state politics from Binakandi after losing a Lok Sabha seat in 2024. Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi is contesting from Sivasagar, and Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary is in the fray from Tamulpur.

As the counting progresses, both the ruling and opposition camps are closely watching the developments, and the early political statements have set the stage for the much-anticipated verdict in Assam.
