New Delhi, May 1: Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly election results, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following her visit to a strongroom. BJP leaders alleged on Friday that Banerjee is anxious about the possibility of defeat and is now looking for excuses.
On Thursday night, Banerjee visited the Sakawat Memorial Government Girls High School in South Kolkata, where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are stored. She expressed concerns about potential tampering with the EVMs and remained on the premises until midnight.
BJP national spokesperson Syed Shah Nawaz Hussain stated that the Trinamool Congress is in a state of panic due to fear of losing. He remarked, “In a state of anxiety and confusion, they are visiting the strongroom. The public has already made their decision. The BJP is set to come to power with full strength.”
He claimed that exit polls indicate a lead for the BJP and accused the Trinamool Congress of seeking to blame the Election Commission for their impending defeat.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala targeted the Trinamool Congress, alleging that the party has adopted a “Triple D” strategy—Denial, Diversion, and Drama. He accused Trinamool leaders of intimidating people and disrespecting constitutional institutions, especially the Election Commission.
Poonawala referenced a viral video of Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee, asserting that it clearly indicates the party’s inevitable exit from power.
Bihar BJP president Sanjay Sarawagi described Banerjee’s visit as a sign of her “desperation.” He noted, “It seems she is losing even in Bhawanipur. Her activities are not even lawful. The anxiety is evident on her face.”
He added that most exit polls show a lead for the BJP, which is why Banerjee is increasingly troubled.
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh stated that the losing party has no excuses left. He said, “After being in power for 15 years, if a party is now engaging in politics around SIR and strongroom, it means they have accepted defeat.”
BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal also criticized Banerjee, stating that the public has shown her the way out of Bengal, which is why she is questioning the EVMs.
