New Delhi, March 12: Former England opener Mark Butcher has praised India’s left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh for his impressive bowling skills. Butcher highlighted Arshdeep’s ability to swing the new ball effectively.
He believes that Arshdeep’s outstanding performance has given captain Suryakumar Yadav more freedom to utilize Jasprit Bumrah strategically. The captain adjusts Bumrah’s usage based on the match situation, making it difficult for the opposing team to predict his overs.
Butcher noted that Indian bowlers have shown excellent control in pressure situations against teams like the West Indies, England, and New Zealand. Throughout the tournament, India’s bowling unit has stepped up during challenging times, significantly aiding the team’s quest for the title.
In a cricket show, Butcher stated, “While Bumrah leads the bowling attack, other bowlers have also played crucial roles. The depth of India’s bowling and their ability to create opportunities is the team’s greatest strength.”
He further mentioned that Arshdeep has been exceptional with the new ball and was perhaps the only bowler in the tournament capable of swinging the ball both ways. Hardik Pandya also delivered outstanding performances with the ball, contributing to the team’s success at critical moments.
The former player explained, “Typically, in T20, a fast bowler is expected to bowl two overs in the powerplay and two in the death overs. However, the Indian team uses Bumrah as an ‘insurance policy.’ Often, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep are given overs at the start, and Bumrah is brought in when needed to change the game’s momentum. This flexibility and strategic thinking set India’s T20 team apart from others.”
Jasprit Bumrah took 14 wickets in 8 matches during the T20 World Cup 2026, with his lethal bowling in the semi-finals and finals being a major factor in the team’s victories.
