New Delhi, 11th August (Udaipur Kiran) – The Indian Army has saluted the sacrifice of Lieutenant Colonel Praveen Sharma and Havildar Deepak Kumar Yadav, who laid down their lives during an encounter with terrorists in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. To locate 50-55 Pakistani terrorists who infiltrated across the border, nearly 500 Para SF Commandos have been deployed in the Jammu region. Additionally, around 2,500 extra soldiers have been mobilized for Operation ‘Sarp Vinash’ in South Kashmir.

According to the Army, both human and technical intelligence confirmed that on 5th August, terrorists infiltrated from the Kishtwar range and entered the Kapran Garol area of South Kashmir. The National Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir Police have been monitoring them closely since then. The encounter began on Saturday at around 2 PM, during which Havildar Deepak Kumar Yadav, Lieutenant Colonel Praveen Sharma, and two civilians were injured. Despite being rushed to the hospital, both soldiers succumbed to their injuries. A civilian who was injured in the firing also passed away on Sunday morning.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Army expressed deep condolences and paid homage to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, along with all ranks of the Indian Army, saluted the supreme sacrifice of Havildar Deepak Kumar Yadav and Lieutenant Colonel Praveen Sharma. The Army stands with the bereaved families during this difficult time.

The encounter took place in the forests of Kokernag, Anantnag, the same area where last year, in September, the Army lost Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak, and Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Deputy SP Humayun Bhat in a terrorist attack.

To track down the 50-55 Pakistani terrorists, the Indian Army has deployed nearly 500 Para SF Commandos in the Jammu region. Operation ‘Sarp Vinash’ is being carried out across South Kashmir by the Army, Police, and CAPF personnel. The Kathua Police have released sketches of four terrorists, announcing a reward of five lakh rupees each for their capture. These terrorists were last seen in the forests of Malhar, Bani, and Sojhdar.
